We at Mt. of the Holy Cross Lutheran Church extend a special welcome to those who are single, married, divorced, gay, filthy rich, dirt poor, or no Habla Ingles or any other language for that matter.
We extend a special welcome to those with crying new-borns, those who are skinny as a rail or who could afford to lose a few pounds. We welcome you if you can sing like Tony Bennett or like our pastor who can’t carry a note in a bucket.
You’re welcome here if you’re “just browsing”, just woke up or just got out of jail.
We don’t care if you’re more Lutheran than Martin Luther or haven’t been in church since little Ole’s baptism.
We extend a special welcome to those who are over 60 but not grown up yet, and to teenagers who are growing up too fast. We welcome soccer moms, NASCAR dads, starving artists, tree-huggers, latte-sippers, vegetarians, junk-food eaters, skiers, snowboarders, and free-heelers.
We welcome those who are in recovery or who are still addicted. We welcome you if you’re having problems or you’re down in the dumps or if you don’t like “organized religion,” (truth is, most of us have been there too). If you blew all your offering money at the bar last night, you’re welcome here.
We offer a special welcome to those who think the earth is flat, work too hard, don’t work at all, can’t spell, or because grandma is in town and wanted to go to church.
We welcome those who are inked, pierced or both. We offer a special welcome to those who could use a prayer right now, had religion shoved down your throat as a kid or got lost in the round-a-bout and wound up here by mistake. We welcome tourists, seekers, doubters, bleeding hearts … and most importantly, you!
OUR TEAM
Rev. Dr. Scott K. Beebe has been the pastor of Mt. of the Holy Cross Lutheran Church in Vail, Colorado since February 2009. He earned his B.A. degree from Grace University in 1981, his M.Div. from Wartburg Seminary in 1985 and his D. Min, degree (Summa Cum Laude) from Phillips Theological Seminary in 1999. Prior to joining the staff at MHCLC, he was the senior pastor at Lutheran Church of the Holy Spirit, Littleton, CO (1990-2009), and was the mission developer for Prince of Peace Lutheran Church, Ponca City, Oklahoma (1985-1990). In addition to his parish responsibilities, Pastor Scott is an active member of our community serving as the Chaplain for the Vail Police Department. He is also an active member of the Vail Mountain Rescue Group, Vail Rotary Club, Foresight Ski Guides for the visually impaired, Eagle Valley Senior Life Board of Directors and he is a volunteer chaplain at the Vail Valley Medical Center.
Pastor Scott is married to the Rev. Kristi Beebe (also a Lutheran minister serving at Nativity Lutheran Church in Commerce City, CO). They are the proud parents of two beautiful daughters, Jasmine and Tiffany. Pastor Scott and Kristi enjoy skiing, biking and climbing the mountains of Colorado. Passionate about the outdoors, in the summer of 2000 they completed climbing all 54 of the famed Colorado Fourteeners. During their joint sabbatical in the summer of 2007 they were privileged to summit Mount Kilimanjaro, which at 19,340 feet is the highest peak on the Continent of Africa. Jan Govreau
Church Musician
Jan Govreau has been a church musician in the Vail Valley since January 2000, on both the piano and organ. She began playing the piano at age seven, and at fifteen became a relief organist in her native Texas.
After receiving her Bachelor’s degree in Business Administration from the University of Houston, Jan moved to this valley in 1984. She loves to ski, bike, swim, play pickleball and bridge. Jan feels privileged to share her music ministry with the church community. She enjoys playing for weddings and other special events.
Rich Freyberg
Council Member, Treasurer
Rich Freyberg has been a full-time resident in the Vail Valley since 2003 and an MHCLC Council member since 2016. He owns a condo in Vail and skis, bikes or golfs most days.
Before retiring, Rich held various positions in Information Technology and Financial Services: CIO of Schwab Capital Markets, Managing Director at Bankers Trust and First Vice President at Security Pacific Bank. Prior to this, he started up several successful software development firms; specializing in distributed, mission-critical banking applications.
He holds Bachelor of Science and Master of Science degrees in Electrical Engineering and Computer Science from M.I.T.
Rich is currently on the Advisory Board of the Game Creek Club, the Board of Directors of IO-Informatics and is the Treasurer of the MHCLC Council. He is an Adaptive Ski Instructor at Vail.

Nancy Clanton is CEO of Clanton & Associates, a lighting design firm specializing in sustainable and regenerative design. Nancy is a registered Professional Engineer. Nancy is a member of the National Academy of Science committee on the assessment of solid state lighting. Nancy is International Standards Organization (ISO) 205 WG 7, USA delegate. Nancy received the 2018 Edison Report Lifetime Achievement Award, 2014 ACEC Colorado Outstanding Woman Engineer Award, the International Clean Design Award and the 2021 CU Engineering Distinguished Alumni Award.
Marit Lodge
President
Marit Lodge grew up Evergreen, Colorado where her parents were charter members at the Lutheran Church of the Cross. Her love of Christian hymns has been fostered over the years as her mother was the church organist and choir director. She moved to Roaring Fork Valley after high school. Marit became a Vail Valley resident in 1992 when she married Henry Lodge. She has been active in many community fundraising events and loves everything about living in our community, especially golf!
Marit began attending services at Mount of the Holy Cross Lutheran Church in Beaver Creek and became a member in 2013. She serves as the President to our council. Marit has become a dedicated volunteer and is active in our church community events. She enjoys singing in our Sunday services.
